Curriculum Planning, School Community & Live Performances.

Building a vibrant classroom to support an equally dynamic school community requires thoughtful planning. it also need collaborative action between teachers and students. An important part of school-based is when dramatic play is transformed into the school production. However, school performance events can be smaller classroom productions in which ideas, stories and valued beliefs are shared.

Adapting the Victorian Lesson Plan Play Studies

Enacting Audiences

Using two contrasting newspaper sources, I show you how to create a Year 10 contemporary drama study unit. The unit includes dramatising the experiences of past and contemporary non-indigenous Australian audiences watching Aboriginal Corroborees. In enacting the audience, the drama gives rise to representations of Australian cultural values over time. A key feature is interacting with the National Library of Australia’s digital newspaper collection (1803 onwards) as well as the National Film & Sound Archive.

Bangarra Dance Theatre – Knowledge Ground

Another drama play study I create is around the Bangarra Knowledge Ground website as a contemporary play text. Itoffers an invaluable and authentic gateway into Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and storytelling. This immersive digital resource allows learners to directly engage with the work of Australia’s leading First Nations performing arts company. Through exploring Bangarra’s powerful dance productions, students can deepen their understanding of Country, learn about traditional stories in a contemporary context, and gain a profound appreciation for the resilience and dynamism of the world’s oldest living cultures.
